We are getting a lot of people contacting us asking a variety of questions about CoVID-19.
Firstly I just want to say that according to WHO (World Health Organisation) there is no evidence to support the theory that we can catch this from, or pass it on to, pets (they do not specifically mention ferrets, but pets in general). We have no reason to believe that our ferrets are at risk of this at this time. However, with ALL human respiratory viruses, we always advise owners to limit their contact with their ferrets, this is because ferrets can pick up a number of human flu viruses, and it would be hard to know initially what you have. So we would recommend the same for this.
Wash your hands, cough into your elbow, stay calm, try not to panic buy!
Ordering and supplies
The webshop is now fully reopened and restocked! This week we will start to return to twice weekly post runs. Orders may still take longer than normal due to the current pressures on Royal Mail.
Suspension of all visits/ homechecks and adoptions
We just wanted to let everyone know that the rescue is closed until at least the 26th of June, regardless of whether the current lockdown is relaxed or not. This is because Pam (the rescue manager), who is currently well and does not have coronavirus!, has been identified by the NHS as part of the group of people who need to be shielded, due to underlying health problems.
For the rescue, this means that Pam needs to restrict her activities to staying at home for 12 weeks with no face to face contact. All of Pam's energy will be focused now on caring for our current rescue residents and giving them as much 1:1 time as possible.
We will still do what we can for strays and absolute emergencies in our immediate area - please do contact us if you need help with a stray ferret in the Wiltshire / Bristol Area.
How can you help the rescue?
These are really trying times. We have good supplies and a financial cushion at the moment, so we can cover our vet bills etc. However, we have no idea how long this crisis will continue. We had taken the decision not to have a ferret show this year anyway due to trustees health, but many events and shows that we would have finanically benefitted from will be cancelled. If you are able to make a financial donation to the rescue, that's wonderful (we do NOT want anyone putting themselves in finanical difficulty to support us!). We want to make the most of your donations, so if you are able to make a donation and you are a UK tax payer, please consider sending us a giftaid form as well so that we can claim that extra 25p per £1 from HMRC. You can download the gift aid form from gov.uk site HERE and email to us at firstname.lastname@example.org - please let us know when and how the payment was made, and the name, so that we can tie to the two together.
If you want to make a donation of goods, please check out our amazon wishlist, it shows what we need and we will endeavour to keep this as up to date as possible as situations unfold (i.e. if we have ferrets on specific foods etc). You can access the list here .
We know this is a scary time for everyone, some will be more relaxed and some more stressed about it, and we know that particularly ferret owners are worried about the risks. So we call for ferret owners to unite, support each other, be kind, and share the advice to treat it like any other respiratory virus around ferrets.
